NACONEK Integrated Water Food and Energy Solutions for Schools (NIWFESS)
Location: Garissa County- Kuno Boarding Primary School, Kenya
Status: In Progress
ZTH is partnering with the National Council for Nomadic Education in Kenya (NACONEK) and other partners to ensure retention of students in schools and improve academic performance of pupils in the ASAL areas. This is done by ensuring there are multiple alternative solutions of water, food and energy in these schools. ZTH is offering solutions through Climate Smart Agriculture innovations such as agroforestry systems using Gliricidia sepium to improve soil fertility, provide fodder and fuel. Other highly nutritious food crops and fast growing pastures have been included in the system to improve human and animal nutrition for the pastoralist community.
